Opioid Use Disorder
Here at WELBECK ADULT HEALTH NP, PLLC, we use the medication management approach in treating patients who are suffering from opioid use disorder. Abuse of opioids is often a multifaceted problem that affects not only the patient, but their loved ones as well. We provide compassionate care in medication management to clear the path for a full recovery. Also known as Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), this approach has been proven effective in greatly reducing opioid use, deaths from opioid-linked overdose, risky or illegal behavior, and spread of disease.

HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV, otherwise known as as PrEP, is a medication that is taken to prevent HIV infection in patients who are at risk for HIV exposure. Behaviors that can increase your risk of getting HIV include, but are not limited to the following:
- Inconsistent condom use
- Recently being diagnosed with a STI
- Having a partner who is HIV+
- Having sexual relations with more than one person
- Using intravenous drugs
When taken as directed by your healthcare provider, PrEP medication is successful in reducing the risk of HIV infection from sex by 99%, and 74% from intravenous drug use. However, PrEP only protects against HIV, so condom use is still essential for protection against other STD infections. Condom use is also an effective prevention method in case PrEP medication is either unavailable or not taken as prescribed for any reason.

HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
Post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV, also referred to as PEP, is a kind of emergency use medication that is taken to prevent HIV after unprotected sex or probable exposure. For PEP to be effective, the medication regimen must be started within 72 hours of unprotected sex, so it is strongly recommended that you call us as soon as possible.
PEP is overwhelmingly safe with minimal side effects, but it is not a replacement for preventative measures such as regular condom use and never sharing needles. If you are in a situation where you completed PEP and certain risks factors remain, it may be a good idea to consider a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)medication regimen.
